PLEASE NOTE A CHANGE IN THE PUTIN AS OF 6/23/08 - INFO BELOW
Illinois River Float with Ken Powell June 28, 2008
If you haven't attended one of the last two year's paddles on the Illinois River, you've missed something pretty wonderful! Plan on it for 2008!
The Mackinaw Canoe Club will again tame (enjoy) the Mighty Illinois River. You will be seeing many sights as we go through Peoria, pass paddle wheels, and cruise along the river walk. You will enjoy hearing different sounds as you float under six different bridges. As soon as they open the bottom lock gate, you will feel amazed by what you see as you pass through. This will be a leisurely 5 plus hours/11 mile trip. We will be stopping for lunch under the trees at Wesley Road River Park. Bring your lunch or there is a restaurant/bar at the park. The lockmaster stated there will be no horseplay at the dam and everyone will be wearing a pfd. Ladies we especially invite you! Last year we had over 31 boats. This year we are going for 99. This is one trip you'll be glad you attended! Yes, you see Chinese carp jumping around your boat! Yes, you may keep them! Yes, this will be an easy, fun, and awesome trip! We plan an early start. We will need many pick-ups to take us back to put in. The put in has changed to Detweiller Marina!! Directions: take I74 to Peoria, Exit 93 Adams St. North, go out 1500 North Adams St to Caroline St. Make a right turn onto Caroline. Put in time is still 7:00 AM. We plan to have the boats on the beach at 7:00 am. At 7:30, we will shuttle cars to the Mendenhall Road boat ramp, Bartonville (Rt 29). Ken's email is down please call him at (309) 694-2832 or Gary Heinz via email or 309-633-0746.

Saturday, October 4, 2008 - Banner Marsh/Chili Trip

This is the first call for paddlers to attend the Banner Marsh Johnson Lake (Main Access)) Chili float on October 4. We will launch at 9 am. The Marsh offers flat water and lots of critters.

This trip includes chili from the Protheros. Lorrie has promised that the chili will be "critter free". What could be better? We will have tables for the post float feed. Give it a try. Put this on your calendar now. (OCTOBER 4)

Let us know if you are coming and how many are in your group.
Norm - Normwm@Verizon.net
Lorrie - lorrieprothero@hotmail.com

Here are the details----

The lake is located at Route 24 mile marker .66 in Peoria County. A sign at the entrance is marked MAIN ACCESS. The boat launch is about 1/4 mile down the access road. Put in and take out will be at the boat launch. No shuttle concerns. This trip is a easy as it gets. Maybe we will be luckier on the fall colors than last year.

Float and Lorrie will serve chili for everyone paddling. They will bring the chili, bowls, spoons, cheese, onions, and fritos for all.

We ask everyone else to bring -
their own drinks
something to share with the rest of the group
plates and utensils for the non-chili items
Some people bring a dessert, veggies, fruit, or whatever appeals to you to share. If you think about it, you might bring a bag chair to sit in.

"Canoeing takes only a few simple tools, a few refined movements that require a short time to learn and a lifetime to master, and a willingness to be a joyful apprentice to your craft for the remainder of your days." - Gordon Grant
