2010 Upcoming Trips and Events
The MCC officers really appreciate all trip and event leaders. Those that lead many trips and those that lead one. Those that
lead out of state trips and those that paddle the creeks an hour away. We hope if you led a trip previously, you will lead again
this year. For 2010 would some of you that haven’t led any trips step forward and volunteer to take on a trip. We really need
people to take on more trips. The officers of the Mackinaw Canoe Club would thank you and we would very much appreciate
it. These trips we schedule really are a lot of fun. Good food, good fellowship with great people, getting out in the fresh air
and on the river, away from computers, TVs, and just getting away from the hectic everyday grind. If you have questions
about leading a trip, please call any officer for answers and encouragement.
PLEASE consider leading a trip or submitting a trip. We will try to find a leader for you. We will make all leading and
reporting as easy as possible for you. Thank you for your leadership—MCC Officers.
Remember to fill out the Trip Request Form. Just click on Forms from the MCC website home page.

NINTH ANNUAL MISSOURI
OZARKS PADDLE
Current River
October 15-17, 2010
9:00 shuttle
Our 9th Annual Missouri Ozarks Paddle will be a basecamping trip from Big Spring NPS Campground in Van Buren, Missouri, the same
facility we used in 2008. Plans are to paddle south from the park for about 15 miles on Saturday and then on Sunday to paddle a shorter
distance from Watercress Spring to the park to pick up that stretch we missed in 2008. There are other access points so arranging a
private shuttle for a longer paddle either day is a possibility. There are also some motels and lodges in Van Buren, 4 miles north,
if you’re not in to October camping. We’ll provide a main course to a communal dinner on Saturday night to everyone who lets us know
in advance that they are interested.
Big Spring no longer takes reservations in advance - it's first come first serve. It's a big park and that time of year there
shouldn't be problem getting a camp site. There is a
possibility of a water shut down although in 2008 they didn’t begin the shutdown until after the weekend and the website indicates
that some facility, although not necessarily the nearest, will be available. We plan to stay in the 200 series loop From my
observation, the stretch from Powder Mill to Watercress Spring was just as beautiful as the northern stretches of the Current
although considerably wider. At this time of the year we haven’t found the jet boats to be a concern. Join us for an exploratory
paddle on a stretch of the Current few of us, including your trip leaders, have ever paddled.
