Other Web Pages
Here are some of the web pages to research our paddling adventures, mostly water level and weather related.
View the graph of the St. Francis water levels at Roselle, from the US Geological Service. Convert to the County D gauge with this formula, (Roselle-3)*15=County D. Current water level on the Saint Francis from the Army Corp of Engineers; use the reading for Roselle, Mo. For more info, visit the Missourri Whitewater Association web pages.
The Leonore gauge on the Vermillion River is at the Red, White and Blue Bridge, just upstream from the put in at Lowell. View graph at Leonore or view numbers at Leonore. Graph to correlate the Leonore gauge and the Lowell gauge. When water levels are too low, take this virtual tour of the Vermillion.
For Big Bureau Creek, Illinois, the Princeton gauge is at the US Highway 36 Bridge. View graph at Princeton or view numbers at Princeton.
For various Iowa streams, start with this page from the US Geological Survey. Included are the Cedar River at Cedar Rapids and Duck Creek at Duck Creek Golf Course and 110th Avenue.
Water levels on the Wolf from the USGS.
Try this for a graph of Peshtigo water levels.
A graph of the Menominee water levels at Niagra, WI is also available from the USGS.
A multitude of rivers in the southeast United States brought to you by the Tennessee Valley Authority.
The Ocoee River release schedule.
Current weather conditions at the Quad City Airport in Moline, Illinois. Great for temperature, wind speed and wind direction. To find weather for just about any place in the midwest US, start at the Nat'l Weather Service - Central Region. It's hunt and choose from there to find what you're looking for.
For up to date weather info in the Apostle Island National Seashore, the US Weather Service has a reporting station on Devil's Island, the northernmost point in Wisconsin. Due to it's remote location, this station is sometimes off line. If you don't get a report, try later, there really is a station there, I've seen it. For more information on The Apostle Islands National Seashore, the park service has a web site.
For information about other paddling and canoe/kayak clubs in Illinois, USA, go to the Chicago Area Paddling and Fishing Pages. Neat site with links to clubs and web sites across the state. Also, the Illinois Paddling Council home page has information about canoeing and kayaking in Illinois. Check it out, as Dan Faust is now maintaining the site after a long period of stagnation.
Take a look at the Mackinaw Canoe Club (MCC) web site for other stuff that's going on close to home.
Another great resource, the Midwestern Paddlesports Message Boards help Illinois paddlers keep in touch with each other and set up impromptu float trips. MPMB is funded by Erik Johnson and maintained by Dan Faust. Another, and slightly more active, MWA Paddlers Forum, for those folks closer to St. Louis.
